When asked if Stars Reach would allow players to fly in space, Playable Worlds CEO, Raph Koster, informed readers of the Reddit AMA that flight is gear-dependent from the ground, but automatic in space. He also warned that things could change.[1]
When inquiring about spaceships and flight, it was revealed that spaceflight would be more realistic, resembling actual space flight (thrust, direction, etc.), and not simply airplanes in space.[1]
In the unofficial Stars Reach discord on 30 Aug 2024, Raph Koster further described how space flight might work:
- You take off from a planet, you end up in space. You fly through space. Sail past asteroids. Dodge space spiders. Fly through a plasma cloud and maybe take damage. Find a wormhole. Go through, emerge in a different sector of space. Maybe it has a planet, maybe several, maybe none. You then land on it if there is one.
- Loading will happen between planet and space, and between space and space in the wormhole.
